Our Mission
The mission of the E.L.P.O. Farrier School is to educate and train individuals to assess, treat, and maintain the health and soundness of equines. This education process will be taught through the processes and protocols used by the Equine Lameness Prevention Organization (E.L.P.O.). The protocols and techniques of the E.L.P.O. have proven to be safe, repeatable, and easy to learn. These protocols have helped to expedite the success of hoof care practitioners around the world, whether they be private horse owners or top end professional farriers. The vast majority of these theories are based around our current understanding of equine anatomy and biomechanics. Understanding how the hoof grows and distorts is key in preventing and treating lameness in horses, therefore the recognition of distortions and how to trim them is the basis from which we will begin to explore the world of equine mechanics. In addition, students will be asked to gain an understanding of how to utilize a variety of materials for treating and maintaining soundness of all types of equines. These materials will include, but are not limited to, steel, aluminum, and composites.
For those desiring to be professional farriers, extra attention will be given to guiding these individuals on a path to begin a successful and fulfilling career. These individuals will not only be given the most up to date information on maintaining equine hoof health, but will also be guided in time tested methods to start, maintain, and grow their business to whichever level they desire. Students will explore the key areas of business success including marketing, finances, client/vet relations, and business development. It is our belief that understanding these key areas is more often than not what will determine how successful a farrier business will be.
